Taking The High Road
This morning I was listening to Tony Robins's message. He brought up an interesting topic. Taking the high road!! Soo that will be my topic today.
Funny how we listen to a message, perhaps a song and it will bring back up some past event. Tony sounded like my mom. His message was about always doing your best, taking the high road even when no one is looking!! That's when it really matters the most. It's easy to blame others or to fall victim based on certain events that have taken place or circumstances but taking accountability will always get you very far in your life. My mom raised my brother and me that if something ever happened, we need to be the leader and take initiative. Certain events were more uncomfortable to take the high road but it always played out.
I'm sure we've all been in situations where we had to choose to play the victim or step up to the plate even if it costs us something. But I tell you the rewards are endless. I'm not sure if you believe in Karma or not but I do and I can assure you, what goes around comes around. When you take the high road in situations you will be rewarded somehow or the other. That's just the universal laws of things. It's the same as if you were having a bad day and decided to project your negativity onto others, Karma will always be handed to you on a silver tray.
Due to my big belief in Karma, I believe we all need to be doing the right thing. Whether that's taking out the trash before mom starts yelling you to, if someone is in danger you offer your help, seeing something that isn't morally right and reporting it, the list goes on and on people but you get where I am going with this. Just think when you help someone even if its the smallest thing you feel so much better about yourself, you want to keep feeling the sense of leader, appreciation!! And I'm sure its the opposite, you chose not to help someone out due to whatever reason and then you feel a huge amount of guilt.
I like to help people out as much as I can. Not because I want to get anything out of it, but to feel that sense of leadership, people can rely on me when they need help. Now don't go around being a pillow for everyone either, have boundaries and limits but I promise you life will be a lot meaningful when you take the high road and offer any assistance people might need.
When I would bartend and cater, I was put in many sticky situations. An order of a customer was wrong, a guest was not in their correct seat. Most of the time when silly mistakes such as these occurred, it was easy to look the other way and pretend you're not hearing someone calling for help. But I remember that wave of guilt would come over me and eventually I submitted and assisted.
By offering help taking the high road guests noticed that! I would get tipped more than usual, people would remember my name and ask me to cater to private parties for them. It felt so good that just by taking that initiative to help had gone such a long way for people.
If so always try and do the right thing and take the high road, even when no one is looking! That's when it will count the most folks.
