My Top 5 Self-Help Novels: Why and How They Can Change One's Life

If you have been following my blog since the beginning, you will know that I am an avid reader who has a tremendous love for books. Not only have they made me more intelligent, but they have helped me in my darkest lows in life. I owe great credit to so many books for there part in shaping me. I like to read all types of genres but non-fiction, memoirs, self-improvement have paved the way for me mentally.

I wrote 2 reviews on books that I highly recommend anyone should read, whether they are into the self-development game or not. But I wanted to share my top 5 ultimate favorites that have sparked the fire in me to become a better individual, not just for myself but for the people around me. Of course, I have to give credit to the people that have shaped me as well, so mix great influences along with reading and you get the new and improved Kseniya!

Now without further ado, I want to share with you my top 5 books that hopefully will ignite the passion for you as it did for me. The books that I will be sharing are all self-development and can be found everywhere, Barnes and Noble, Amazon so please do try and get yourself a copy and see for yourself how powerful these books are. There are so many other books that have motivated me as well, but these 5 have truly rocked my core.

1. Zen And The Art of Happiness by Chris Prentiss

I had written a blog review for this book about a month ago, because this book means so much to me. My mom had given it to me on my 18th birthday, a month after she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. My mom was always a positive person so her giving this to me really meant a great deal. This book is about not having expectations of life. I know easier said than done right?! But it can be fulfilled, according to this book, in order to seek true happiness in your life, we need to believe every single thing that has happened in our lives was the best possible outcome. I like that the author uses his own personal experiences so that each reader knows that this ideology of having no expectation is realistic to all of us.

It is your choice whether you would like to view life or your past experiences in such a way but when it comes to doing it, having no expectation can save you a whole lot of pain. You create your own happiness of course but when you add in no expectation, you will see your reality in a different light. This book is short and very easy to read, and has helped me in some of my worst times. This is the kind of book you read twice a year to get a fresh perspective on. When you re-read it over and over you never know, you may come across a message that you didn't see before! Give it a try and find out!

2. Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch

I finished reading this book just a few days ago but I regret not picking it up sooner! I know everyone's belief system is different and that's totally respectable, but this book covers a lot of questions people may have when it comes to a "God" or Higher Power, Allah however you want to call it. "God" in this book doesn't refer himself to anything more but the person upstairs wanting all of us to find who we truly are and be that person. Any questions you may have on war, relationships, how to attract anything in your life, this book covers it.

3. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

I first picked up this book when I was 19 or so, and I loved it! At this time in my life, I had been curious about spirituality, talks of the universe, and the law of attraction. I came upon this book and it was like all my questions were pretty much answered. Rhonda has two more books, The Power is the sequel and, the third is The Magic. The message in the books is that everyone and anyone has the ability to create their own reality! That's what the law of attraction is all about. What you put out is what you will get. Rhonda gives you great tips on how you can obtain anything that you truly want. I started manifesting a lot during my readings of the books, and it was true! The universe always hears us whether we see it or not. This book has forever changed my life and I hope it does for you.

4. You are a badass; You are a badass at making money by Jen Sincero

I first read You are a badass at making money, I wanted to get more educated on how to spend my money, how to save, and how to attract more. Jens's message is all about getting rich and the importance of doing so. We may all have our opinions about money but her message is simply to be rich because the universe wants to supply it! We need to get out of the conditioning we have surrounding our finances. If you want to get rid of your anxieties surrounding money, and wondering why you lack the unlimited supply you want and need, I advise you to read this book!

You are a badass is a great book about how to overcome anxieties, becoming the best version of yourself. Her fun vocabulary and her personal experiences allowed me to relate to her on a deep level. She personalizes with every reader that comes across her books and makes them feel like they are not alone. I highly recommend if you want to laugh, cry, and just nod your head every 2 seconds because you can relate to her in so many ways!

5. The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield

I read this book about a month ago and I finished it in 4 days, I couldn't put it down!! This book is based on the 9 insights that one must go through in order to reach enlightenment. This book was an action-packed adventure of a man going all the way to Peru to seek all 9 insights, and on his way, he meets remarkable people that change his view of the world.
I loved this book because I envisioned myself going on such a quest while I was reading it. If you take a chance on this book I'm sure you will have read about all 9 insights before in life, and maybe are applying it daily consciously or not. If you are just starting out in the spirituality field, this book will give you a great perspective to dive deeper.

Well there you have it folks! My top 5 favorites, but as I mentioned there are so many more books that have shaped me, and allowed me to become more open-minded. I hope by sharing some of these great gems that they will help you as well and, maybe give you a kick start into self-help. Remember you deserve to help yourself just as much as you help others. In order to do better, we need to become better.
