How To Get Out Of A Funk
I apologize for those who have been continuously reading my blogs. I realized I haven't written in such a long time. The past week has been a little hard for me mentally so I guess a well-needed break was necessary. But I had realized that I was allowing myself to revert back to old habits and not stay consistent. I made a promise to myself that I will blog religiously so here I am again folks. It's okay to fall off the wagon sometimes but remember to hop back on!!
I wouldn't call it depression because that's not what I had been feeling, but very low and funky. My mom had always used that term with me when I was being a brat lol. I usually can feel when I'm getting into a funk but lately, my brain hasn't been of much help. Usually, when I don't pick up a book for a while, or all of a sudden lose the momentum, (cough cough writing my blog), but for some reason, I didn't realize until I was feeling very low. I'll be honest even writing this blog now, I'm not as motivated and excited but I know in order to gain back that mental strength you just need to do it!
I wanted to share some tips on how to get out of the funk and start getting your groove back. We all need to be accountable for our emotions. I know it's easier said than done and trust me last week was a tough one for me, but there are no excuses. I want to live a fulfilled life, I need to make it happen for me. Our emotions can get the best of us sometimes and with lingering thoughts to add on top of it, you feel stuck in a rut. But have no fear! Hopefully, some tips will resonate with you. Remember through repetition and positive self-talk, we can all turn that frown upside down!
One way you can get out of your head and focus on the beauty of things is by being outside! Being with nature can have such a profound effect on us mentally and emotionally. For me when I feel that beautiful sun on my face, I can't help but smile and appreciate mother earth.
I know times like these, its hard to enjoy the outdoors especially keeping a distance to others, but even just for a short 20-minute walk in the park or in the sun will surely lighten your mood. I appreciate the trees, the birds, the sun everything. Next time when your outside, look around you and have gratitude for nature.
I love to exercise. Working out is a huge part of me and will always be. Some days are harder than others but you never regret a workout! I know we love the feeling of how we look and feel, our adrenaline is pumping after that last heavy set!! When you're in a funk even if it's just a brisk walk, I promise you, you will feel lighter! You lose sight of all your problems when you're working out to focus.
I notice if I'm upset at something or someone, I workout and then I forget why I was upset in the first place! Working out when you're feeling sluggish will help you focus on the big picture. You look good, you feel good, its no doubt people turn working out into a lifestyle. You never want that feeling to go away!! If you're new to working out, find some tutorials that resonate with you and start from there. It's better to start somewhere than nowhere!
Taking time off of social media is a big step in the right direction. We see people "living their best life" all day on Instagram, Facebook, it could drain you!! Most of the time people are just faking it to be cool but it can really influence a person's day and mindset especially when they're more vulnerable.
It's easy to compare your life to someone online who seems to have it all but that's why you can't judge a book by its cover. Funny enough most of these people who show off really have nothing going from themselves. These people want to perceive like they have it all when in reality they are going broke to keep up with this lavish lifestyle.
Turning off your phone for a while or looking at content that is uplifting is a great way to boost your mood. Listening to motivational messages, talking to someone who wants the best for you, that should be why you're on your phone more if anything. Use your phone wisely!!
Fortunately, I had followed all my tips this week and I feel great. Not 100 percent but 90 and I'll take that over still feeling funky. With the support of my man Pablo and these tools, I was able to be back into the groove. Remember you're not stuck forever, it may take a while for you to pull yourself all the way out but taking steps like these, having positive and healthy out lights will help maintain a healthy and positive outlook on your life.
I believe in you and so should you! :)
